The George Kukla MedalDistinguished Service AwardThe medal is awarded for distinguished service to the international loess community to an individual deemed to have made a significant contribution to our current understanding of loess deposits or broader Quaternary palaeoclimate, either through a paper or series of papers. Recognition will be also given to other forms of contributions, such as academic service, public engagement and/or outreach and societal impact. See the nomination procedures and deadlines below.

The Ana Conea MedalEarly Career Researcher AwardThis medal is reserved for Early Career Researchers to award one or more outstanding contributions in any aspects of loess and palaeosol research. Any scientist within eight years from completing their PhD can be a recipient of this award. See the nomination procedures and deadlines below.

Nomination Process
Nominations for both medals are welcome all year round though the deadline will be 3 months prior to the LoessFest Scientific meeting, where the winners will be announced. Deadlines will be confirmed closer to the time.
The George Kukla Medal
- There is no age or nationality limit and researchers at any stage of their career will be considered.
- Nominations should include a summary and a short personal statement in support of the candidate (one page), the curriculum vitae (two pages) and list of publications of the nominee (two pages).
- Nominations should be supported by three letters of recommendation. These letters should clearly establish the nominee's recognised contributions to the field.
- Nomination paperwork should be submitted electronically to the Secretary, Dr Kaja Fenn.
- All nominations will be acknowledged, and nominators are advised to request such confirmation if it is not received.
The Early Career Researcher Medal
- Nominations should include a summary and a short personal statement in support of the candidate (half-page), the curriculum vitae (including the date when their highest degree qualification was received) and a list of selected publications by the candidate that best support the nomination (half page). The whole nomination package for the award must not exceed two pages.
- Nomination should be supported by two letters of recommendation
- Nomination paperwork should be submitted electronically to the Secretary, Dr Kaja Fenn
- All nominations will be acknowledged, and nominators are advised to request such confirmation if it is not received.
